Neighborhood Preservation Plan | Norwalk, Connecticut

Pouder Design, working with Westhab, Inc., the Institute for Human Centered Design and David Berridge Architects, prepared a neighborhood preservation plan in a portion of the City of Norwalk. Faced with the pending construction, on the adjacent street, of a major shopping mall occupying four city blocks, the City Redevelopment Agency initiated a planning study in which the team undertook extensive community outreach to a wide range of local stakeholders to define what attributes of the neighborhood should be preserved. Through active community dialogue, recommendations were crafted and focused on Housing Affordability, Preservation of Historic Character, Connectivity, Public Open Space, traffic calming and expansion of a community center. The Plan will guide the long-term development of the area, while integrating it with the future of the surrounding neighborhood.
